Nesting season continues on our local beaches and as of Junes 10, Turtle Time tells us Fort Myers Beach has a total of 36 nests, and to our south, Bonita Beach is up to a total of 73.
Hatchling season is just around the corner! Lights which are visible can have lethal consequences for the tiny sea turtles trying to find their way to the Gulf. Even as newborns, they know where they need to go. Remember to pull the drapes and turn off exterior lights or better yet install Amber LED bulbs. Also important is removing beach furniture and any other objects by 9:00 PM
If you find a hatchling wandering in daylight, place it on moist sand in a dry container, shade it and call Turtle Time immediately 239-481-5566. Additionally, alert FWC Wildlife Alert hotline 888-404-FWCC(3922).
