The Estero Island Historical Society is hosting its first public meeting of the year Monday, January 13th at 2PM at the Mound House. The guest speaker will be Director of the Blanchard House Museum of African American History and Culture of Charlotte County Martha Bierda
Bireda is the great-granddaughter of Queen Evans Andrews, a pioneer who came to Punta Gorda in 1897 from Charleston, South Carolina. She will share stories of the Gullah culture and of her visits with the Gullah people who live on James and Johns Islands.
