Our friend Kathy Nash is chairing a new Adopt-A-Nest Program at Lovers Key State Park. Kathy says this is a way for the public to become more involved in the upcoming turtle season, while raising money to help protect the nests and also to help the park.
The Adopt-A-Nest program is a fundraiser centered around sea turtle nesting season and the sea turtle program. Sponsors are given the opportunity to symbolically “adopt a nest.” Funds will assist in providing Lovers Key State Park with the needed supplies used to protect nests. It will also help pay for other resource management needs within the park.
Here’s a look at the different sponsorship levels
HATCHLING LEVEL – $20
Sponsors will have a laminated photo of a hatchling with donor’s name on it in the “Lovers Key Nest Chamber” kiosk at the WDC for the entire nesting season. Does not include nest sign.
LOGGERHEAD LEVEL- $250
Sponsor will receive a personalized nest sign, certificate of adoption, nest photo, and adoption photo frame.
GREEN “Business” LEVEL – $500
Sponsor will receive a personalized nest sign displaying business logo, certificate of adoption, nest photo, and adoption photo frame.
LEATHERBACK LEVEL – $2500
Sponsor receive a specialty designed and personalized nest sign that could include a photo, logo, or simply text, certificate of adoption, nest photo, adoption photo frame, a tour of the park by park staff, and a FOLKS merch package.

A few years ago, when I found several nests before Turtle Time volunteers did (because I was out that early) I was told, very rudely by a volunteer that I would NEVER have my name on a nest. Little did I know that it would only take coughing up some cash…. However, I will do so for Lovers Key State Park because while the public doesn’t realize the unbelievable devastation of the park, their rangers, employees, and volunteers have worked miracles to get the park reopened and continue to work tirelessly to bring the park back to where it was before Ian. They do so much for so little, they deserve our respect and support. They are doing more than anyone to provide habitat and support for the turtles and all of the other creatures who inhabit the park as well as keeping a clean and attractive beach for our visitors.
