Fort Myers resident Marli Debonis provided Veterans at American Legion 1097 on Pine Ridge with gift packages. Marli chose to honor American Veterans as part of her school project. The gift packages included candy, cookies, and brownies.
Marli tells Beach Talk Radio she came up with the idea to help the VFW from her history teacher who said they had an 8th grade project which was to do something for the community. “The first thing that came to mind was baking for people. As I started brainstorming I thought why not veterans. I realized I could do it for anyone but veterans need to know that everyone, especially young people, know that they did a lot for us. So I was looking at places online and the VFW looked like everyone was enjoying themselves in the photos so I thought this is a nice place. I’m really appreciative of all the amazing things they have done for our country. I know I’m just 15 years old but I truly appreciate the veterans of VFW. It feels amazing to do something like this and put a smile on their faces.”
Marli’s dad John said, “It made me proud that Marli choose to pick the veterans because the younger generation doesn’t understand what they did for us. It made us happy seeing them happy.”
Kudos to the teacher for inspiring these projects. Marli you are a GEM!

Amazing, good for you Marli!
What a great inspiration Marli is! Taking what she can do well and using it for others. It is nice to see our youth featured doing positive projects. I hope she inspires more to reach out to volunteer their talents to the community like she did. Best wishes for a great future to Marli.
