County Commissioners recently appointed City of Sanibel Mayor Holly Smith to the Lee County Tourist Development Council for a two-year term. This is her second appointment to the council. Smith is not only the Mayor of Sanibel, she’s an owner/operator of hotel properties in Lee County.

Smith said she is extremely proud of this opportunity to again serve on the TDC. “Tourism is the economic driver in Lee County and throughout Florida. I am grateful to the Lee County Board of County Commissioners for their confidence in me.” stated Smith.”

The Tourist Development Council, established by citizen referendum in 1983, is a nine-member Council appointed as an advisory council to the Lee County Board of County Commissioners. The TDC also provides direction on programs, budget, and reviews expenditures of the Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau quarterly. Each year the TDC approves funding for the maintenance of Lee County beaches, for beach re-nourishment projects, and for beach and shoreline capital projects such as piers, boardwalks, parks and re-vegetation.

In addition to her appointment on the TDC, Mayor Smith is the liaison and Vice Chair of the Lee County Horizon Council and serves on Lee County Coalition of Mayors.
