Library Millage Decision on Hold For Now

We will not know where the Library Board is headed with your millage rate just yet. On Tuesday the Library Board could not field a quorum of board members in order to hold a legal meeting. They needed 4 of the 7 members and only 3 showed up.

A tentative millage rate must be submitted to the state by August 1st. The board will try to meet again on Wednesday, July 31st at 2PM.

The current library millage rate is .2355 per $1,000 of assessed property value. If the board decides to keep the millage rate the same they library will see an increase in revenue of nearly $300,000 due to the higher property values on Fort Myers Beach.

The library staff has recommended keeping the millage rate the same.

To take in the same amount of revenue as last year the board could also decide to roll back the millage rate to .1711 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

  1. Total lack of leadership. would not have happened under Dr. Hommerding. almost 2 years closed because they cannot get parts for an elevator…. all employees getting paid for doing nothing. Voters should vote down any increases.

  2. I have gone to the library several times. Don’t see anyone there. Sell the building to the private sector for better use.

  3. Kudos to the 3 that showed up, shame on the other 4. When was this meeting set? *how much notice* Maybe we need to list those that attended and thise that dis not so we can vote accordingly in the future.
