At the request of the Fort Myers Beach Mayor Dan Allers, Structural Engineer Michael Stewart has created designs for a new beach school. This was done just in case there ever comes a need for the town to build its own school with how the Lee County School District has been leaning lately, which appears to be toward closing the school on the island.
Stewart provided the documents to the town at no charge and created them in less than 3 weeks.
This design is preliminary and done without Stewart having any access to the building or any of its documents.
This design is just under 9,000 square feet with a room for each grade (1-5), as well as all the amenities required. It’s based off the old school layout.
Stewart says he would need a survey to determine the final elevation but it’s tentatively set at being 9 feet above grade if grade is at 5.0 NAVD. But it’s tentative because of not having any documents like a survey.
