On Monday, at the Fort Myers Beach Town Council meeting, new Town Manager Will McKannay will be sworn in and take over for Andy Hyatt. McKannay was the unanimous choice to replace Hyatt back on April 18th. He’ll be our guest on Beach Talk Radio May 25th at 10AM
McKannay takes charge of a community during a very interesting time. There’s a campaign to recall two Town Council members, a major development this Town Council approved is being challenged in court by a group of local residents, so many condo buildings are still closed, businesses are coming back slowly, and homes are still being demolished as the community tries to rebuild nearly 3 years after Hurricane Ian.
McKannay is a former Commander in the U.S. Army in Fort Riley, Kansas. He plans to be on the job Monday seated in the council chambers in the trailers still being used as a town hall. There’s expected to be about a month overlap with Hyatt, or as long as McKannay needs, to help make this a smooth transition.
The 2-year contract calls for the town to pay McKannay a salary of $200,000 per year and up to $22,500 to relocate his family from Colorado. The salary the town will pay McKannay is approximately the same as what was being paid to Hyatt.
