Sanibel To Enforce Leaf Blower Ban

On Tuesday the Sanibel City Council voted unanimously to start to enforce a ban on gas powered leaf blowers later this year. The ordinance has been on the books for years but wasn’t being enforced because of several hurricane state of emergencies.

The big reason for the ban is the devices are too noisy. And several Sanibel City Council members said Tuesday this is what the residents want.

As of December 1st, Sanibel’s gas powered leaf blower ban will be enforced. Council members wanted to give residents and landscaping companies the additional time to replace their gas-powered blowers.

The ban on gas powered leaf blowers falls under the noise ordinance of the Sanibel Charter and the penalties for violating provisions of this ordinance may include a fine not to exceed $500 and no more than 60 days in jail.

  1. According to my neighbors here in Ohio, my battery powered blower is just as loud as a gas powered one, lol… I really can’t believe this is even being addressed by the Council in Sanibel, SMH…. Unreal…
