The Florida League of Cities has awarded Sanibel Vice Mayor Holly Smith their 2025 Home Rule Hero Award. This is the eighth consecutive time Vice Mayor Smith has received this honor.
‘Home Rule’ is the ability of a city to address local problems with local solutions, with minimal state interference. Home Rule Award recipients are government officials, both elected and nonelected, who have consistently responded to the League’s request to reach out to members of the Legislature to provide a local perspective on an issue.
Vice Mayor Smith currently serves as 1st Vice President for the Florida League of Cities and will be installed as President in August 2025. She also serves as Immediate Past President of the Southwest Florida League of Cities Chapter
