On Saturday, September 30th, The Sanibel-Captiva Foundation is hosting a special fundraising event to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Ian at Buster’s Sports Tavern, located at 16681 McGregor Blvd. in Fort Myers.
This event begins at 3PM.
This fundraiser will help fund the printing of 20,000 copies of the new children’s book, “Rosie and the Hurricane.” This book has been written by local authors: Fernanda Ferrell Zabala, Olga Zabala and Erin Sells. Fernanda’s local family business is AHT Advanced Hurricane Technologies who are on the forefront of disaster preparedness and recovery.
Highlights from the day:
- Live Music: From 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, enjoy the soulful tunes that will soothe your spirit and celebrate the resilience of our community.
- Dueling Pianos: From 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, join us for an exhilarating dueling pianos performance that promises an unforgettable evening.
- Raffle and Prizes: Participate in our raffle for a chance to win exciting prizes donated by local businesses and sponsors. *Local Artist Lacy McClary (of the Times Square Legacy Tower on Fort Myers Beach) will be donating an original piece of artwork for the raffle!
- Book Signing: Olga Zabala and David Acevedo will be on-site to sign copies of the heartwarming children’s book, “Rosie and the Hurricane.” Proceeds from book sales will go towards a our literacy initiative.
- Literacy Initiative: We are raising funds to provide 20,000 copies of “Rosie and the Hurricane” to the Lee County School System. Our goal is to offer a free copy to every Kindergarten to 2nd-grade student, ensuring they have access to this inspiring story.
- Hurricane Preparedness: AHT-Advanced Hurricane Technologies will be on site to answer any questions about hurricane shutters and hurricane-proof windows and doors. They will also generously donate a generator for our raffle.
