Since posting the position, Fort Myers Beach has received 38 applications for Town Manager. One month ago, current Town Manager Andy Hyatt announced he was not interested in extending his 2-year contract. That set in motion his 100 day notice.
Hyatt, Executive Assistant Traci Kohler, and Human Resources Director Talissa Oliveira have been sifting through the applications to first eliminate those that do not meet the minimum requirements. Once that list has been narrowed down background reviews will be done. Hyatt explains what will happen after that. “We will then narrow our list for those who will be interviewed by the Town Council. While we do not have a specific date, I’m anticipating interviews the first of March.”
Hyatt informed the Town Council in January that he did not want to extend his contract past the two years he originally signed on for. All 5 members of the Town Council were surprised. They were hopeful they could keep Hyatt as Town Manager for at least one more year, maybe two.
At his one-year review this town council praised Hyatt with nothing but gold stars. An email from Fort Myers Beach condo owner Fred Weaver, sent to Hyatt’s wife at her workplace, seemed to be the final straw that led to Hyatt moving on from Fort Myers Beach. In the e-mail Weaver stated he was going to file “state and federal complaints against your husband Andy Hyatt, there will be a “circus-like atmosphere” with pervasive and continuous national media treatment in newspapers, magazines, radio, and television for the duration of the investigatory and pretrial proceedings.” Weaver has never provided any proof to Beach Talk Radio (or the Town) to back up his accusations.
Fred Weaver should be run out of town.
