There’s A Lot Going on at Lover’s Key

(By Kim Ryan) November is jam packed with activities to rejuvenate the mind, body and soul at Lover’s Key State Park. You may need to call in sick for the rest of the month to enjoy everything waiting for you at one of the most popular parks in all of Florida.

Yoga is great anytime of the day and Lover’s Key has a class that can work within your busy schedule.

Mondays and Wednesdays attend Morning Yoga at the Welcome and Discovery Center or the Gazebo. Starting at 9:30 a.m. join a yoga instructor from the FMB Yoga Project for a relaxing Open Vinyasa Flow session at the Welcome and Discovery Center. This multilevel course is open to both beginners and experienced yogis alike. Cost is $15.

There will be a Veterans day yoga class on Nov. 11th at 4:30 which will be a gentle sunset yoga session to support the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that supports veterans and service members who incurred an injury, illness, or wound while serving in the military on or after September 11, 2001. A donation of $20 is suggested. All proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Project.

A special Full Moon Yoga class will take place on Friday November 19th at 4:00 pm. Enjoy  1½ hour of Full Moon Flow on the beach and experience the magic of yoga and the full moon.  Hear the sounds of the waves lapping on the shore, smell the salt in the air and feel the cool breeze as you meditate and practice in this special class.  Stay for a fabulous Lovers Key sunset after class!  All participants will receive a container of magical moon water, which has been charged at night under the light of the Full Moon.This multilevel course is open to both beginners and experienced yogis alike. There are also classes and presentations to educate, like The Amazing Gopher Tortoise presented by Florida Master Naturalist Tony Mauriello. This interpretive program will be an introduction to the amazing gopher tortoise. We will explore their unique characteristics, their habitat, and major issues facing these gentle and important creatures. Space is limited; reservations are required. To register, call 239-463-4588. If you are feeling artistic, they are featuring canvas painting on the 20th at 10:30. As a part of Artist-In-Residence Jenny M. Licht’s Art in the Park series, this art class centers on the sand dollar, a favorite among beach lovers. To purchase tickets, which are $35 visit www.FriendsOfLoversKey.org.

Also on the 20th is a Nature Journaling Walk at 1:00 p.m. This nature walk allows you to explore the flora and fauna of Lovers Key through the eyes of an artist, while also creating some sketches of your own.
