On Monday the Fort Myers Beach Town Council unanimously approved a contract for new Town Manager Will McKannay. McKannay was the unanimous choice to replace the departing Andy Hyatt back on April 18th. His first day will be May 19th.

The 2-year contract calls for the town to pay McKannay a salary of $200,000 per year and up to $22,500 to relocate his family from Colorado. The salary the town will pay McKannay is approximately the same as what was being paid to Hyatt.

McKannay will get a town issued cell phone and laptop. The town will also pay 100 percent of his health, dental and vision insurance and 50% of health, dental and vision for his wife. If McKannaey chooses to participate in the town’s pension plan, the town will contribute 10% into the plan and McKannay would have to put in 20%.

McKannay must give the town 120 days notice if he decides to resign or not extend his contract. The Town Council can extend his contract in one year increments 90 days before it expires. If McKannaey resigns before being on the job for one year he must return the relocation money to the town within 30 days.

McKannay is a former Commander in the U.S. Army in Fort Riley, Kansas. He plans to be on the job Monday, May 19th, which is the date of the second town council meeting of the month. There’s expected to be about a month overlap with Hyatt staying on an extra month, or as long as McKannay needs, to help make this a smooth transition.

McKannay will live on Fort Myers Beach.

Mckannay’s performance will be reviewed every May.
