Dr. Traci Kohler has been hired by the Town of Fort Myers Beach as Executive Assistant to Town Manager Andy Hyatt. Kohler will officially retire as Principal of the Beach School on November 6th. She starts with the town on the 12th.
The Lee County School District confirmed Kohler would be stepping down next month. She sent the following e-mail out to the Fort Myers Beach community.
Good Afternoon, FMBE Families,
I wanted to let you know that today I informed the school district that I will be retiring on November 6, 2024. It has been the greatest gift and pleasure to serve the students and families of Fort Myers Beach. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your lives.
Best regards,
Dr. Kohler
It’s unknown who will take over as Principal of the Beach School at this time.
Kohler was hired as Principal at the Fort Myers Beach Elementary school in the Summer of 2022. She took over for Karen Manzi who retired in May of 2022 after a four-year run as Principal. Two months after Kohler was hired Hurricane Ian hit and did severe damage to the Beach School displacing the kids for over a year.
Kohler played a significant role in helping the beach community come to an agreement with the School District to repair the building and set goals to get enrollment up, and the cost per child down, at the school.
At this time it’s unknown who will step in as Principal of the school. The 64 kids who attend the Beach School are now going to San Carlos while the school district remediates the building as a result of damage from Hurricane Milton on October 9th.
Good job. Thanks for job well done.
She is absolutely fantastic. Good move, FMB!
Why would a dedicated educator leave a school in the lurch in November? The Beach School obviously has significant challenges including getting and maintaining adequate enrollment. It is disappointing that the leader in charge is not taking on these challenges.
Do we need someone this highly educated in school administration to be an executive assistant –what are the job responsibilities of the position
what d
Must be a very nice raise to go from Principal to Admin Assistant….
