On Friday the public will have an opportunity to meet the five finalists the Town Council will consider to replace Town Manager Andy Hyatt when he leaves over the next 30 to 60 days. The original five finalist list has changed from the story we published two weeks ago.
Michael Brillhart, Will McKannay and Jeremy Shaffer remain on the five finalist list. William Lawrence and Scott Moye are no longer on the list. The two alternates have now been moved up into the finalist category. They are: John Trew and Patrick Jordan.
Up until January, Trew was the General Superintendent for the Portage County Engineer’s Office in Ravenna, Ohio. Read his resume HERE. Up until 2024 Jordon was the County Administrator for Ionia County, MI. Read Jordon’s resume HERE.
45-year old Michael Brillhart was jut hired (on March 4th) by the Apalachicola City Commission as City Manager. However, he’s still interviewing for the Fort Myers Beach position. Mayor Dan Allers said on Beach Talk Radio Sunday that Brillhart was still interested in the position. The job he just took pays $90,000. The Fort Myers Beach position pays around $200,000. Read Brillhart’s resume HERE.
Will McKannay is an Emergency Management Consultant in Hybrid, TX. Read his resume HERE.
Jeremy Shaffer has been the Village administrator at Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio since 2019. Read his full resume HERE.
Because the Town Council needs to vote on who will be considered and have not met since the original 5 finalists and 2 alternates were chosen, there is no longer an alternates list if these current five finalists do not get hired. The Town Council would then have to start the process over again and either go through the resumes already on file or ask for more candidates.
The public is invited to meet the five finalists on Friday at the town hall trailers starting at 9AM. The council will also interview the candidates one-on-one which will then be followed by a special council meeting in which one of the five finalists could be hired on the spot.Â
We hope to do a short interview with all five finalists while covering the event this Friday so stay tuned to our Facebook page and YouTube Channel.
Current Town Manager Andy Hyatt told the Town Council Monday he would stay on another 30 days if needed in order to make a smooth transition to a new Town Manager.
Local journalism is hard work. If you appreciate the most in-depth reporting on Fort Myers Beach, please support what we do HERE by Venmo, Zell or PayPal. Thank you.
If they are not from Florida and have hurricane/disaster it’s a big NO!! Seriously who picked these people? Look up Geneva on the lake that that one guy is involved with. It’s a dump town in Ohio??? Why is he even in the running? I would love to be able to question whomever selected these people!!
Keep looking. I’m not impressed with any of them. We need some candidates from Florida with experience in hurricanes.
Ditto on ICMA. Who did the recruitment of these people? Shaffer seems to be misrepresenting his role. I googled and he was promoted to his current role in 2023. No candidates with Florida or beach experience?? There’s got to be talent in fl
If your candidates are not an ICMA member you’ll be looking again in 6 months for the next one. And if you’re looking for an experienced candidate, one that is well versed in the operations of coastal barrier island communities, than you’ll be looking again if you hired one for 70k. McDonalds pays their GM more than that. You get what you pay for, suck it up and get some good direction and money management or stay the path and continue to careen into the sea.
When the money doesn’t come out of your pocket , it’s easy to spend in ridiculous ways – how many jobs in Lee county Fla pay $200,000?
This is beyond stupid –
The Town can’t maintain or operate the most basic components of Island so they rely on approving and spending outrageous amounts of other people’s money in hopes that people don’t notice the utter incompetence of the Town Council.
Every project town undertakes has been inept and wasteful at best .
Would love to hear one thing the town council would be proud of?
Why in the hell are they paying a manager 200K??? Seriously I think the town should have to explain to the homeowners why the manager should be getting 200K a year. We lucked out with Andy but now what? Putting out a 200K carrot is how we get unqualified, uneducated that are just grifters looking for a big paycheck. Allers said on Sunday that anyone could make up a fake resume. Hmmm? Well, for 200K, I hope the town is running extensive background check and check all their references, credit check, etc. Google is NOT a background check. The manager is really the one that runs the town and has the power. The mayor is just the one that is a mouth with little power. The manager should be picked by the people. Let us vote!
Brillhard just accepted a job. That should eliminate him from consideration. Character counts.
$200K?? For what?
Wow! What drives the TM FMB salary to be so high? How does this compare to similar sized local municipalities?
