Town Meetings Move Back to DiamondHead

As the Town of Fort Myers Beach continues to work toward opening its new Town Hall building at 6231 Estero Boulevard, four main government meetings will be held back at DiamondHead Resort.

The two regular 9AM Town Council meetings (8/4 and 8/18), the 9AM Management & Planning meeting (8/7) and the 9AM LPA meeting (8/18) will be held in the lobby ballroom of the resort.

DiamondHead was a huge help to the Fort Myers Beach government immediately after Hurricane Ian when Town Hall was destroyed. The resort opened its doors to the town immediately where all government meetings were held until the town could come up with its temporary trailer location on the Bay Oaks property. Those trailers were recently removed due to FEMA regulations.

The town was originally hoping to be in the new Estero Boulevard Town Hall building earlier this year but, like a lot of construction work on the island, expectations and reality can be many months apart. Some of the town’s staff are already in the building, however, it is not open to the public due to elevator issues and work still being done on the first floor, which will be the Town Council chambers.

The town purchased the building for $7 million. The state helped the town out by sending down $8 million for a new town hall. The town used insurance money and that extra $1 million to buy the old 7-11 property next door, which will be used as a parking lot.
