The National Shell Museum & Aquarium’s next free lecture is Thursday, April 3rd at 5:30PM. The speaker is New York Times best-selling author Mark Kurlansky who will explore the ecological history of the oysters of New York Harbor.
These oysters were at first native, then imported from Chesapeake Bay, became globally famous delicacies, and ultimately were destroyed as New York Harbor was ruined by pollution in the 19th and 20th centuries. For 50 years now there have been efforts to restore the harbor and its oysters.
The cost is free to museum members, $10 for non-members.
