Scott Wirth has been the interim Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District Chief since Ron Martin resigned back in March. Wirth is the only candidate being considered for the job at this time by the Fire District Board and will be having one-one-one meetings with board members over the next month.
Wirth was the only internal candidate that applied for the job and board members want to meet with him individually before they decide if they need to look outside the current rank-and-file for a new chief.
Wirth has been with the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District since 2017 when he joined as Chief of Operations. Prior to that Wirth held the same position with the Fort Myers Fire Department.
Wirth joined the fire service as a volunteer firefighter in 1989. He began his career with the Placid Lakes Volunteer Fire Department until 1991, when he joined the Fort Myers Fire Department.
