3 Restaurants Proposed For Sea Grape Plaza

Robbert Himmelstein, who owns the new furniture store being built in the old bank building in the Sea Grape Plaza, would also like to build a 3-story building that includes several restaurants and a roof-top bar.

Himmelstein requested a pre-application meeting with town staff back on October 4th. Those meetings help an applicant determine if staff even thinks a proposed idea has a chance of approval in front of the LPA and Town Council.

The proposed 3 story building is 22,500 square feet and would include Charro Brothers Restaurant and Kilwins on the first floor. Charro Brothers is operating now out of a food truck on the same property as this proposed structure (2801 Estero Blvd.). Kilwins was located in Times Square before Ian destroyed those structures.

Tommy Bahama’s restaurant is the proposed restaurant for the 2nd floor. The Tommy Bahama brand is well known and includes 8 Florida restaurant locations including Naples and Coconut Point.

The 3rd floor of the proposed building would include a roof-top bar.
2801 Estero Boulevard is located across Bay Road from the library and right up the street from the Beach School. Currently the only restaurant open in the Sea Grape Plaza is The Island’s Pancake House.

  1. Upon first reading, Robbert Himmelstein’s proposal seems to fit FMB’s LDC guidelines. The town would certainly benefit from additional restraunts. I look forward to hearing more about this proposal.

  2. Did I miss something? I thought Seagrape Plaza was owned by the man who owns Mr Tequila plaza (Key Estero? Forget the name). Would be built in front of his strip mall or add on to the building? Love the idea of attracting activity down the beach!

    • Good question! If it is the same owner, the Town should get him to fix the permitting mess he has at Key Estero before allowing any further development on any of his other properties. If the owner of the furniture store is a different owner, LOVE the idea and good luck!

    • No…he owns Seagrape Plaza, but not the old bank building or the front parking area where Charros is now parked. Nice people, the Himmelsteins…

    • This proposed project is in front of sea grape plaza. The furniture store and the new proposed building will be called Surfside casual plaza

  3. Once more of the recently approved developments are built, other developers will get a better idea of what is acceptable. Like The Whale, Sandy Bottoms, The Beach Bar on the smaller end of developments, and this appears to be FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. A great idea. A furniture store is fantastic and the restaurants at this location are within walking and biking distance of many new developments, including the new enclave at Red Coconut. Helps with the congestion at the foot of the bridge, expands the island. And sticks to the code. Now we are talking.
