Members of Beach Baptist will be voting this Sunday to sell a piece of their property for $4 million to a developer. If the land is sold Beach Baptist would use the proceeds from the sale to build a new church.

We reported last week that three big projects would be on the LPA agenda today. It turns out there will only be two, Myerside and Sandy Bottoms. The Cottage/Shuckers proposal did not make it on. The reason we were told was staff didn’t have the time or resources to make the LPA deadline.  

This past Saturday Beach Talk Radio's 2nd Annual Day Before Mother's Day 5K resulted in $6,500 being raised for the Fort Myers Beach Woman's Club. Due to a late flurry of registrations we were able to tack on another $1,500 after donating the original check of $5,000 immediately following the race.

Mike and Dawn Miller will put shovels in the ground for the new Whale on Friday at 1PM. The Whale will be the first new restaurant/bar to be rebuilt after Hurricane Ian. The plan is to be open in the fall of 2025.

Calling local community members with interest in water quality. Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve is looking for volunteers to sample water quality in Estero Bay monthly as part of a long-term citizen science program, the Charlotte Harbor Estuaries Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Network.

With Hurricane season three weeks away the town of Fort Myers Beach wants residents to be ready. This Friday from 10AM to 2PM a Hurricane Expo will be held at the Mound House. Hurricane supplies will be available and local meteorologists will be in attendance.

Hurricane season begins June 1st and the Lee County Visitors & Conventions Bureau is hosting its annual hurricane workshop on Thursday June 6th from 9AM to 11AM. Register HERE.

The Canada Florida Chamber of Commerce is hosting a networking event tonight at Mr. Waves on Fort Myers Beach. The event is being organized to "promote business, trade, investment, and friendship between Canada and the Fort Myers area."

Keep Lee County Beautiful needs the community to participate in their annual Community Appearance Index (Litter Index). This index allows KLCB to monitor levels of litter and debris to better guide in cleaning specific locations.
