40-year old Brian Pedroza is behind bars today after being accused of punching a man over the age of 65 unprovoked. The incident took place Sunday and witnesses told Beach Talk Radio News they believe Pedroza is homeless.
According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Department report Pedroza punched a vehicle before he hit the older man. Here are the details.
The incident began with a disturbance call to LCSO on Sunday night at about 5PM. The call involved a verbal incident and the window of a vehicle being punched near the 7-11 across from Lynn Hall Park. The subject involved in that incident fled the scene. He was later identified by witnesses as Pedroza.
Deputies were then flagged down and directed toward a residential neighborhood where neighbors heard a commotion outside. An unidentified man, over the age of 65, walked outside to the front of his house to see what was going on. The victim stated Pedroza turned his attention from the family he was arguing with over to him. The victim told deputies Pedroza walked over to him and punched him in the side of the head unprovoked knocking him to the ground. Pedroza then left the scene.
While searching for Pedroza, another call came in, this time from the 7-11. Pedroza was in the bathroom of the store punching the walls. When he walked outside he was arrested without further incident.
Court records show that Brian Pedroza has been arrested 7 previous times dating back to 2019, including charges of disorderly intoxication, resisting an officer with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, open container on the beach and pier diving.
Pedroza lists 582 Estero Boulevard as his residence on the beach. A witness who saw what happened Sunday evening believes Pedroza is homeless. As of today, he resides in the Lee County jail with a court date set for June 6th at 8:30.
The man who Pedroza is accused of hitting was treated by EMS at the scene and did not want to be transported to the hospital.
