The official ribbon cutting ceremony for the completion of one of Fort Myers Beach’s big three projects will be this coming Tuesday at 9:30AM. Sheena Brook will be the first to perform in the new Bayside Park stage.
The project took less than a year and about $1 million to complete.
The upgrade to the lot between Nervous Nellie’s and Snug Harbor includes a stage, artificial turf, new pavers, plants, shade and new palms.
Before the face-lift, the park was an eyesore and included a non-functioning fountain and a gazebo that, at times, was used by the homeless.
This project has come a long way. The town was originally planning to build a 3-story structure on the property to accommodate about 100 residents of the mooring field with laundry facilities, showers and office space. That plan was thwarted after residents and businesses in the area objected to the building which would have blocked the view of the water.
Bayside Park is one of three major projects the town borrowed $10 million for.
Wright Construction was the sole bidder for the project.
