The first volunteer beach cleanup is being held this morning from 8AM to 11AM. Volunteers are meeting in Norms Beach Parking Lot on Estero Boulevard where there will be free parking. There will also be free parking in the Sunset Grill parking lot, according to property owner Terry Persaud.
Today’s cleanup is being organized by Keep Lee County Beautiful. It’s the first of several planned for the coming months. Over 100 volunteers signed up for today which was the cap set by the organization. Executive Director Trish Fancher says walk-ups are welcome, the main concern is parking. Fancher says her group is hosting a corporate group cleanup from the same location Monday, December 5th.
Plans have also been finalized for a cleanup on the south end for this Saturday, December 3rd. REGISTER HERE.
For the event today, Keep Lee County Beautiful will provide litter sticks, buckets, clear trash bags (required to actually be removed from the beach), safety vests (since there are heavy equipment machines on the beach right now), gloves, coolers of water, safety kits, hand sanitizer, masks and liability insurance. Every volunteer will be required to sign a liability waiver.
