Social media can be a great way for opinions to be heard. It can also be a cesspool of negativity. As of July 1st Lee County will no longer allow anyone to post comments on their social media pages. The County says it’s to help “prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain a respectful and accurate space, we will be disabling comments and direct messages on our social media channels.”
The county says there are still several ways SWFL residents can communicate with the county and they’ve provided the following list:
Visit specific department pages on www.leegov.com for customer service email addresses and phone numbers.
Submit a Request for Action HERE
Sign up for the Lee County newsletter HERE
Submit an eComment on specific agenda items HERE.
Countdown to all the “Unofficial Lee County Government” pages, where LeeCo’s posts will be copied and commenters will simply post there (just like many of the BTR imposters do with “fan pages).
If LeeCo truly cared about “misinformation,” they’d have been doing better with all the fake/scammer links that get posted on their page.
