The Town of Fort Myers Beach announced this week that FEMA Hazard Mitigation funding has been released to support the elevation of 25 single-family homes on the island located in flood-prone areas.
According to Mayor Dan Allers, about $6 million will be distributed to residents who’ve been waiting for more than 3 years and were unable to repair their homes while they waited. FEMA’s rules stated that if anyone substantially repaired their homes they would not be eligible for the funds.
The 25 homes will be elevated above base flood elevation standards, helping reduce future flood risk and strengthen the long-term resilience of our community.
