The Lions Need Our Help

As you all know, for the second year in a row, the town of Fort Myers Beach canceled the Shrimp Festival, which would have been this weekend. Normally Lynn Hall Park would be swarming with vendors, visitors would be drooling over jumbo shrimp and volunteer Lions would be running around frantically making sure the event went off without a hitch.

The annual event, which was first held in 1959, includes a 5K run over the bridge and a big parade. It’s a huge fundraiser for the Lions Club. They turn around and donate the money to organizations such as little league, youth soccer, southeast guide dogs, the library and the beach school. They also award scholarships and help pay for eye surgeries for those who may need financial assistance.

This weekend the town has given The Lions Club approval to set up a booth in Times Square to raise money to try to make up for two lost years. They’ll be set up both Saturday and Sunday from 8AM to 7PM.

Shelby Stites from The Lions Club joins us on Beach Talk Radio Saturday morning from 8:45 to 9AM to talk about the booth.
