Alcohol or drugs were not suspected in the one-car crash that took place the day before Thanksgiving across from Beach Pottery on San Carlos Boulevard.

The driver of the vehicle, 31-year old John Bailem of Lehigh Acres, sustained minor injuries in the crash that caused an estimated $20,000 worth of property damage.

The crash occurred at 2:20AM on the 24th and took over 9 hours to clear because a power pole was hit in the crash.

Deputies estimated Bailem did over $20,000 worth of damage when he lost control of his 2008 Nissan truck and launched it through a fence and into a light pole. The FPL pole sustained $10,000 worth of damage, the fence will cost about $5,500 to fix and a Century Link utility box was also damaged and will cost $5,000 to repair.

Lee County Sheriff’s Department accident report drawing.

LCSO deputies say Bailem was heading south on San Carlos Blvd at a high rate of speed when he lost lateral stability while negotiating the curve in that area and his vehicle began to rotate. This caused Bailem to cross the center continuous turn lane as well as the northbound lanes of San Carlos Boulevard where he struck the barrier fence, a utility phone box as well as the power line pole. The LCSO report did not state how fast Mailem may have been driving at the time of the crash.

Deputies say Bailem was found at fault for driving too fast for conditions and careless operation.
