The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum on Sanibel is looking for two students for summer internships. One is paid, one is unpaid. Here are the details.
During the Marine Biology Education (paid) summer internship, interns will have the opportunity to work with the Museum’s experienced Marine Biologists to learn about mollusk biology, ecology, and taxonomy. Interns will gain valuable public speaking and education skills while acting as Touch Pool Docents in the Museum’s new Beyond Shells Living Gallery of aquariums.
During the Aquarium Husbandry (unpaid) summer internship, interns will work with Marine Biologists and Aquarists to learn how to care for saltwater aquariums and the living animals they house, including feeding and water quality testing.
Additionally, the Museum is hiring multiple Customer Service Associates to greet visitors, sell admissions and event tickets, answer questions about programs and exhibits, and ring up purchases in the Museum Store.
The National Shell Museum is a nationally-accredited natural history museum and aquarium with a focus on shells, marine life, and conservation. The Museum includes 11 saltwater aquariums exhibiting over 60 species of marine life including a Giant Pacific Octopus, as well as 35 exhibits of shells; a changing exhibition gallery; and auditorium for public programs and films. The Museum welcomes between 50,000 and 60,000 visitors annually.
