From 10 AM to 3 PM on two consecutive Saturdays, January 17th and 24th, The Friends of The Arts and the Quilts of Valor Foundation invite the community to St. Raphael’s to help create a quilt to be presented to a local veteran.
Event organizer Laurie Nienhaus said, “It doesn’t matter whether you’re an experienced seamstress or have never stitched a thing in your life. We need cutters, stitchers, pinners, and others to press open seams. Maybe you wish to only bring food and drink for those creating. Come and be a part of these two days.”
Nienhaus goes on, “Once learning of the Quilts of Valor Foundation, I was much taken with the idea of creating a quilt to honor one of our veterans. Historically, quilts bring women together. I see this one-time project as a way for Fort Myers Beach women to continue healing post-Ian, both individually and as a community, while creating a treasured gift honoring a local veteran. It’s a win win.”
Once the quilt is pieced, it will be machine quilted by PJ’s Quilt and Longarm Studio.
If you’re interested in participating contact Laurie Nienhaus at 239.463.1079. St. Raphael’s is located at 5601 Williams Dr.
