Vice Mayor Jim Atterholt told the Town Council on Monday that he would not seek or accept the nomination as Vice Mayor if any of the other council members were thinking of nominating him.
Atterholt has been Vice Mayor since Dan Allers was chosen to be Mayor by the council 3 years ago. Both the Mayor and Vice Mayor are chosen by the Town Council.
Attorholt has three years remaining on his second term as a Town Council member after being easily re-elected in November of 2024. He says it’s time to pass the baton onto someone else and made the announcement Monday to avoid any dramatic moment a month from now when the Mayor and Vice Mayor are chosen again as they are every November.
Is Allers going to pass the baton as well? We need to have someone who can speed things up and focus on cleaning up this island and stop focusing on the sand and the lights. I’m still looking at smashed houses, debris and dead trees. It’s time we move on..3 yrs is just want too long.
