The Fort Myers Beach Audit Committee meets Wednesday at 9AM. If enough members attend the meeting the committee will discuss the 2025 audit which, although several months late, has finally been completed.
The audit committee has had many meetings canceled since January and their September meeting was held without a quorum so not action could be taken.
The 2025 audit appears to be a clean one for the town. The firm Mauldin & Jenkins blamed the lateness of the audit on turnover in the town’s finance department. “Due to staffing turnover within the Town and the Town’s finance department, these financial statements were not submitted and completed within the nine month required timeframe. Meaning the town is not in compliance with State Law. The Town did not have processes and procedures in place to ensure the timely completion of the annual audit process. We recommend the Town implement corrective actions to establish the proper processes and procedures to ensure the annual completion of the audit process within the state prescribed timeframe.”
The Audit committee currently has 7 seats. There’s been some discussion amongst council members to reduce the size of the committee to 5. During the Wednesday meeting, the committee will also choose a Chair and a Vice Chair. Formber Chair Brian Thomas passed away back in August.
