It took less than 3 days for the Lee County Sheriff’s department to make an arrest in the Fort Myers Beach Memorial Day shooting. 18-year old Jatavion Craig was caught in Alabama Thursday morning and charged with aggravated assault and discharging a firearm in public.
After the shooting, the manhunt began, according to Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno, who called Craig a danger to the community and a violent thug. LCSO detectives are in Alabama to bring Craig back to Lee County. Craig is from Alabama with ties to the Fort Myers area. Luckily nobody was injured in the shooting.
During a Thursday press conference Marceno went on to say that, “This violence and reckless disregard for human life will not be tolerated in our county. Lee County is one of the safest counties in the country and I intend on keeping it that way.”
Marceno said additional resources were deployed to the beach for the Memorial Day holiday weekend and that’s why the response to the incident was quick and overwhelming. An official report of the incident says that over 40 deputies were involved in the investigation.
