Keep Lee County Beautiful has been recognized as a 2023 AARP grant recipient. AARP Florida announced 8 organizations throughout the state will receive 2023 Community Challenge grants and KLCB was one of those 8.
Wirth Could Be Your Next Fire Chief
Scott Wirth has been the interim Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District Chief since Ron Martin resigned back in March. Wirth is the only candidate being considered for the job at this time by the Fire District Board and will be having one-one-one meetings with board members over the next month.
Lovers Key State Park Now Open
The state officially reopened the park on Wednesday when the directors of the facility did a site visit and decided the park was safe to reopen. Lovers Key State Park suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Ian and has been closed ever since.
Pink Shell Proposes New 8-Story Building
The proposed building across from the resort on Estero Boulevard includes a 4-story 518 space parking garage and 4 stories of condo units to accommodate 109 multifamily residential units above the parking garage.

Woman’s Club Hosting Membership Meeting
The Fort Myers Beach Woman's Club is hosting a membership meeting on Wednesday, July 5th at 6:30pm at The Tiki Bar at the Lighthouse Island Resort. The group will also be discussing the recently launched Pub Passport campaign.
Town Looks at Buying Property
The Fort Myers Beach Town Council will be working with a company called Trust For Public Land to purchase property on the island and preserve that land as a park, trail or some other public benefit.
Town Attorney Relieved of His Duties
John Herin is no longer the Fort Myers Beach Town Attorney. While he did make a pitch to try to keep his job at a special Town Council meeting Monday it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that he would be replaced.
Turtle Towels Needed
The Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation lost all of its towels due to Hurricane Ian and would greatly appreciate donations of any size and shape. The towels are used to cover buckets that are used to hold and protect hatchlings.
