State Hosts Roundtable To Discuss Red Tide
We all remember how devastating Red Tide was to our area in 2018 and how we were on pins and needles this year anticipating its return. On Wednesday several state agencies met to discuss the efforts the state is implementing to combat Red Tide.
Arches Fundraising Update
The folks at the Restore Fort Myers Beach Arches group tells us that they are 38% of the way to the total they need to fund the approximate cost for construction. $15,000 is in the bank as of today.
Elsa Wreaks Havoc on Sanibel & Captiva Nests
Last week's tropical storm caused 125 sea turtle nests on Sanibel and Captiva to lose their marking stakes and protective screens. Sea turtle staff members have been working to confirm whether the eggs washed away, too, or if they are still buried in the sand.
Beach Development To Be Discussed Tonight

And that makes Lee the second highest county in the state of Florida for Manatee deaths through July 2. Brevard tops the list with 312 according to FWC. The Manatee mortality rate so far in 2021 has surpassed the previous high of 830 back in 2013.

Orphaned Otters Returned to the Wild
Three orphaned North American river otters have been returned to the wild after being raised at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife in Sanibel. The otters were released at River Park in Bonita Springs.
