As we discussed on our show this past Saturday (EPISODE #194) Dr. Margaret Banyan has been hired by the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department to help develop a long-term strategic plan for the department.

The Fort Myers Beach Library reported 60 angels were adopted by local residents during the annual Angel Tree sponsored by the library and the Garden Club. December 1st is the deadline for returning unwrapped gifts to the library so they can be delivered to the families in need in time of the Christmas holiday.

The annual Beach Kids Foundation holiday auction is being held online again this year due to COVID. The auction provides Christmas gifts to Beach Elementary students and their families. So far the auction, which runs through December 6th, has raised over $4,500. Check out the auction items HERE.

According to the Lee County Clerk of the Court and Comptroller's office, Fort Myers Beach contributed $6.6 million toward the total $53.3 million in bed tax money collected in Lee County over the last year. March 2020 was the top month for Fort Myers Beach.

Lee County tourism has fully recovered from COVID. Tourism revenue hit a new record in Lee County in 2021, raking in more than $53.3 million in bed taxes for the fiscal year, which ended in September.

Governor DeSantis has and he's proposing gas tax relief he's hoping will save Floridians more than $1 Billion. On Monday DeSantis announced that during the upcoming legislative session, he's proposing a gas tax holiday that will save every Florida family up to $200.
