Fort Myers Beach resident Kevin Paradiso, picture here with Jason Ingream, the owner of Mangorita's, won the hand crafted boat on Sunday. The boat was built by the late Pete McCagg. McCagg was very instrumental in getting the annual Shrimp Festival organized.

With the retirement of Mick Denham, who took over for Lee County Board Chair Kevin Ruane, the Sanibel City Council will appoint a new Mayor Tuesday during an organizational meeting.

The New Speed Limit Signs Are Up
When 25MPH speed limit signs popped up in the back bay in 2019 local residents took notice. Not only because of the new signage but because boats were moving faster in what they consider to be a year-round manatee zone. They are doing a no-wake-zone victory lap this week.
Florida’s Manatee Death Rate Extremely High
The state is on pace to have one of the deadliest years on record for manatees. FWC reports that through the 5th of March 432 manatees have died already in Florida. In all of 2020 the state recorded 637 manatee deaths, 607 deaths in 2019.

The Lions Need Our Help
For the second year in a row, the town of Fort Myers Beach canceled the Shrimp Festival, which would have been this weekend. Normally Lynn Hall Park would be swarming with vendors, visitors would be drooling over jumbo shrimp and volunteer Lions would be running around frantically making sure the event went off without a hitch.
