The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will announce the Preferred Alternative for the Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM) during a meeting with the Project Delivery Team, stakeholders and members of the public Monday at 11AM.

This week the Lee County Board of Commissioners voted to accept $980K from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program to assist residents with electric costs or to prevent disconnection of electric services.

With COVID-19 cases surging in the state of Florida, the Fort Myers Beach town council will begin social distancing again during its meetings at town hall. Council members will be at least six feet apart from one another beginning this Thursday when the group meets for its M&P session.

(By Fire Chief Matt Love) The Fort Myers Beach Fire Department completed two weeks of training using the various buildings found on the Margaritaville development site. The training focused on multi-unit, multi-jurisdictional fire scenarios using the Pierview Hotel and several other buildings.

Roar OffShore Boat Race organizers received approval for the 2021 event from the Fort Myers Beach town council Monday. The approval is contingent on receiving approval from other entities such as Lee County. The 2021 event will be held October 7th through the 9th.

Years in the making, the golden shovels will hit the dirt at approximately 3:15, setting in motion two years of construction that will transform downtown.
