The Cultural & Environmental Learning Center Advisory Board (CELCAB) has voted unanimously to name the circular driveway at The Mound House after Dan & Ann Hughes.
Dan, the former Mayor of Fort Myers Beach, and his wife Ann were a part of the Mound House from the beginning and very instrumental in getting it off the ground and open. Dan was the Mayor when the town purchased the Mound House.
Over the years Mr. and Mrs. Hughes donated tens of thousands of dollars to the facility and an enormous amount of time. The Living Room inside the Mound House is named after Mrs. Hughes.
CELCAB Chair Barbara Hill told Beach Talk Radio News that CELCAB was happy to vote in favor of naming the driveway loop after Dan and Ann Hughes, recognizing their leadership and contributions to the Mound House. “In addition to providing generous financial support, Dan also served as the Friends of the Mound House attorney and treasurer. The sign will be located at the base of the road by the bay at the entrance to the Mound House.”
