The Florida Governor will hold a press conference at 9:30 this morning to update residents about Piney Point, an old fertilizer plant where a wastewater containment pond is dumping polluted water into Tampa Bay. The environmental disaster has many worried about another wave of Red Tide.
The pond experienced a breach which prompted DEP to authorize dumping polluted water into Tampa Bay under an emergency order to prevent the wall’s complete collapse. As of last week, over 173 million gallons of the polluted water pumped into the bay.
DeSantis will be joined by Senate President Wilton Simpson, Senator Jim Boyd, Representative Tommy Gregory, Representative Will Robinson, and DEP Secretary Noah Valenstein.
