Fort Myers Beach Finance Director Joe Onzick is retiring. His final day is this Friday. This last year was Onzick’s second run with Fort Myers Beach. He was first hired in 2023 and worked for the town for 2 years. In 2025 he resigned due to the number of hours required of him to get the job done. He then decided to come back a year ago when the town hired Will McKannay as Town Manager.
On Onzick retiring, McKannay said he was deeply grateful for Onzick’s contributions to the Town of Fort Myers Beach, particularly during a period of significant financial challenge. “His commitment to helping this community rebuild, with both strength and integrity, speaks volumes about who he is. We wish him all the best in this next chapter. Effective immediately upon his departure, Carolyn Luomala will serve as interim Finance Director until further notice.”
Luomala was a contract employee before taking over the position.
The town is heading into budget season with a new fiscal year set to begin on October 1st and the challenge of property tax reform to contend with.
Prior to joining the Town, Onzick served for 10 years as the Executive Director of Finance for Kane County, Illinois.
