Fort Myers Beach Adds 12 New Nests in One Week

Turtle Time reports that as of the end of this week, there are 60 nests on Fort Myers Beach (up from 48 last week). There have also been 93 false crawls (up from 77 last week). Here’s how that stacks up against Sanibel, Captiva and Bonita.

SCCF reports Sanibel now has a total of 300 nests, up from 238 last week.

On the east end of Sanibel there are now 62 nests (up from 47), including 3 green turtles. East has had 102 false crawls, up from 73 last week.

On the west end there now 238 nests (up from 191 last week), including 2 green turtles. West has had 283 false crawls, up from 203 last week.

Captiva now has 119 nests (up from 82 last week) with 170 false crawls (up from 111).

Bonita Beach now has 149 nests (up from 112 last week) and 158 false crawls (up from 112 last week).

Please do your part and fill in holes in the sand, remove beach furniture and other objects that would obstruct the path of a turtle and please remember to close your drapes at night, turn off or shield exterior lights..…or better yet…use Amber LED bulbs for outside illumination. Don’t use flashlights, cell phones or take a flash photo of a sea turtle if you are lucky enough to witness one crawling onto the beach.
