On Thursday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Chris King to the Fort Myers Beach Library Board. Chris is also chair of the Fort Myers Beach Anchorage Advisory Committee.
King told Beach Talk Radio News, “I’m humbled and excited to be appointed by our  Governor to serve on the Fort Myers Beach Library Board. As a passionate, life-long reader, I look forward to working with the rest of the board members and the Friends of the Library to promote this island gem, build awareness and use of the facilities, and further ingrain the Library into the fabric of our community.”

  1. I don’t know who else may have applied. Chris applied July 7, 2024, when a candidate who filed with Lee County Elections was deemed not qualified last June and that left an open seat. Chris then was interviewed by a member of the Governor’s staff and then received the appointment.

    • That’s great! I wish she had run for the open seat in November 2024, but maybe it was too late to apply. She could have been on the board serving since then. She will be a welcome addition and now the board finally is fully staffed.

  2. Did you know that both Michael Poff and Greg Scasney were appointed to the Library Board by the Governor, too? This happens when there’s an open seat before the next election. It’s strange that another resident who filed her paperwork long ago was passed over. I’m not saying that one is better than the other; however, I wonder how the Governor knew which candidate to pick.
