The Estero Island Historic Society will host a presentation by historian and acclaimed author Robert N. Macomber Monday, January 10th, at 7:00 p.m. at The Fort Myers Beach Library on Estero Boulevard. Macomber will present “A Florida Civil War Christmas.”

Macomber – names “2020 Florida Writer of the Year” by the Florida Writers Association – will relate the fascinating, true tale of a young mixed-marriage couple who became pro-Union refugees on southwest Florida’s Useppa Island during the US Civil War.

It’s a story of love, war, the bitter-sweet Christmas of 1863, and a woman’s incredible resilience against daunting odds, with a poignant legacy that has lasted to this day.

Macomber is a multi-award winning writer, internationally acclaimed lecturer, former Dept. of Defense consultant, adventurous expedition leader, accomplished seaman, and a reviewer for the New York Journal of Books.

Macomber is best known for his “Honor Series”, the popular maritime thrillers which describe the life and career of his protagonist, a U.S. naval officer, Peter Wake, from the Civil War in Florida, beyond the Spanish-American War in 1898, and into the early 1900s.
