How Much New Sand Did Fort Myers Beach Receive?

According to Coastal Engineering Consultants President Michael Poff and Fort Myers Beach Marine Operations Project Manager Chad Chustz 1.17 Million Cubic Yards was dropped on Fort Myers Beach from the reach renourishment project.

The beach renourishment project cost a total of $40.5 million. The share Fort Myers Beach kicked in was $1.17 million. The project did take longer than expected due to Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton in 2024. There were also equipment problems from the vendor that added to the completion timetable.

Several areas of shoreline were left low lying following the beach renourishment project. And due to the mechanical and weather delays, the contractor was not able to re-build the berm in the central segment of the beach. On Monday the Town Council approved an add-on project that will fill the scours and rebuild the berm.

One of those areas will include the beach behind the Cresciente condo building. A number of residents from that building attended the council meeting hoping the project would be approved and include the area behind their building. They left the meeting very happy.
The add-on project will be paid for with state grant funding the town already has.
