Least terns have returned and are likely to nest again on Causeway Island A! Join SCCF on May 6, from 6-7:30 p.m., to learn more about their Sanibel Causeway Shorebird Steward Program for the 2026 nesting season.
SCCF is seeking volunteers for 2-3 hour shifts on weekends and holidays to help educate beachgoers about nesting birds and how everyone can share the shore this summer.
For the training event, volunteers will join us in person at SCCF or via Zoom to learn more about the program. Causeway stewards will begin taking shifts in mid-May (shade tent, chairs, cooler, water, etc. provided!).

A snowy plover nest has been marked on Fort Myers Beach, mid-south end (not in the Critical Wildlife area on Little Estero). The nest is just a scrape on the sand. It’s nearly invisible to passersby, as is the tiny plover sitting on the nest. Please, please leash your dogs and give the nesting area a wide berth. Too many dogs roam unleashed on south FMB and we see no enforcement of the beach leash law.
