And, if the stars align perfectly, they could be open for business in the Sea Grape Plaza in 6 weeks. The owner of the business, Brian Martins, says he should have permits approved this week or next.

Sea Grape Plaza was severely damaged by Hurricane Ian on September 28, 2022. A new roof has been added, new windows and doors have been installed and electric is going in this week.

According to a permit application with the town, over $244,000 is being spent to renovate the unit inside the Sea Grape Plaza at 2801 Estero Boulevard. Improvements include new walls, new lights and power, a new HVAC system, new plumbing, insulation ceilings and a new kitchen.

Martins told us yesterday that once he gets the permits from the town he’s expecting his interior build-out to take about 6 weeks. The Fort Myers Beach Fire District rejected the most recent permit application for 3 reasons which appear to be easily fixable and should not delay plans to reopen.

Martins purchased the Island Pancake House business in June of 2022. He would be the first tenant to open back up in the Sea Grape Plaza which is owned by the same company that owns the Mr. Tequila retail strip on Estero Boulevard. The town is in a fight with the owner over that lot. The town says he’s operating an illegal public parking lot.
