It Was an Emotional Day For Sure

There were smiles all around Friday afternoon as shovels finally hit the sand and the hourglass flipped over beginning the countdown to the actual opening of TPI’s Margaritaville resort. Our Facebook Live video from the event has now been viewed over 7,000 times.

TPI’s Tom Torgerson and John Dammermann were clearly emotional to be part of a day that seemed like might never arrive. When Torgerson spoke to the tent filled with dignitaries, local media, family and friends, he became choked up when he spoke of the late former Mayor Dan Hughes not being part of the celebration.

Delays due to COVID and a frivolous lawsuit followed years of working with local officials to modify the project that will basically be the new Gateway to Fort Myers Beach as it will be located right at the foot of the bridge

In approximately two years the new resort should be open for business.

Next week, buildings will start to come down to make way for the a resort that will feature over 200 rooms, most with a view of the beach, a 5000sq ft ballroom, and a large elevated terrace to host special events.

The main hotel will be connected to the beach via a safe, easy to access walkover, where guests can lounge by a large pool, grab a bite to eat or drink and enjoy live entertainment

There will also be 30 beachfront suites with amazing views of the gulf and its spectacular sunsets. Unlike other hotels, the beach club area will be open to the public. Day passes will be available to local residents.
