Baby season is here and with it comes one of the busiest, most critical times of year at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife.
Each spring and summer, thousands of vulnerable wild patients arrive at the CROW hospital: tiny, fragile, and often alone. From orphaned raccoons and squirrels to nestling songbirds and injured ducklings, these young animals depend on immediate, specialized care to survive.
Many require round-the-clock feedings, warmth, medical treatment, and the expert attention of our dedicated hospital and volunteer teams.
Baby season also brings significant challenges. The surge in patients means increased demand for formula, medications, medical supplies, and staffing to provide the intense care these animals need. Quite simply, CROW cannot do this lifesaving work without donations.
Your gift today ensures that every tiny patient receives the nourishment, treatment, and compassion they deserve – from their first fragile days to the moment they are ready to return to the wild where they belong.
During the 2025 baby season, CROW cared for 1,270 orphaned animals across 205 species. The most common reasons for orphaning were injuries from human activity (vehicle strikes, window collisions & landscaping equipment); trauma; and dog and cat attacks. These cases brought many vulnerable native babies, most often eastern cottontails, mourning doves, northern raccoons, and Virginia opossums.
