Just a few weeks ago Karen Woodson said she would not run for one of the two open seats on the Fort Myers Beach Town Council. She’s changed her mind. Woodson has confirmed to Beach Talk Radio that she plans to run making her the 4th candidate for two open seats.

Woodson is a member of the Bay Oaks Recreational Campus Advisory Board and the Local Planning Agency. Both are Fort Myers Beach committees that Woodson would have to resign from if she wins election to the Town Council.

She is also a member of the Friends of Lovers Key, Friends of The Arts and The Womans Club. She’s been a Fort Myers Beach resident since 2016.

Why did Woodson decide to run? “I believe when you live in a community and love it the way Mark (her husband) and I do, you always have the desire to become part of the framework and give back to the community beyond what you have received. Even though I have been involved in many Boards and volunteer positions since moving to FMB in 2018, I think there is more that I can and want to do. What better way to “make a difference” than to be involved in the decisions and direction of the future? You have to ask yourself what attracted you to FMB in the first place and how do you convey that attraction to others in the most responsible way. Whether it’s safety, planned growth and execution, our water and beach quality…these are all realities that have a huge impact in how we address our future. It will take open-minded leadership, active listening, bringing people together and solving problems that will be the catalyst to our continued success.

Two weeks ago, Mayor Ray Murphy announced he would be running for re-election to his seat. Vice Mayor Rexann Hosafros has not announced whether she is running again although the speculation is she will not.

There are two other candidates running for the two open seats. Both of those candidates will make their official announcement tomorrow morning on Beach Talk Radio at 9AM and 10AM.

Woodson will be on the show to discuss her candidacy Saturday, April 23rd.
