On Tuesday the Lee County Board of Commissioners will vote on whether to purchase 28,358 square feet of land for $1.8 million at 1100 Main Street just before the Matanzas Pass Bridge heading to Fort Myers Beach.
The money to purchase the property is not in the county’s budget. The board will consider a budget amendment and use CBDG-DR funds from HUD.
The purchase price for the vacant land is $1.7 million plus closing costs of $110,000. The county will also pay the seller’s closing cost of $75,000. The seller is Olsen Marine.
Back in 2025 Olsen Marine was originally asking $1.9 million for the land, however, 2 independent appraisals came in at $1.7 million which Olsen then agreed to sell the property for.
This property will be used by Lee County DOT for a roadway drainage improvement project on Main Street on San Carlos Island. It’s an area that badly floods from nearly every heavy rainfall.
Commissioner David Mulicka has been working for years on this project to try to transform it into a working waterfront property. Eventually, the hope is to have that area include over 30 truck and trailer parking spots with a boat ramp open to the public in addition to the improved drainage and roadway.
Significant upgrade that is much needed.

Why not a parking garage? Then one tram during high season shuttling beach goes back and forth. Less traffic on the beach. Perfect place!
